According to H.E Manolo Lopez, ambassador of the Philippines to Japan, arrangements with the Japanese government are underway to facilitate visa requirements for Vietnamese, Indonesian and Filipino visitors.
The aim is that some time in the near future, visitors from these 3 countries will not need to apply for a tourist visa when visiting Japan.
Improvements in the Japanese administration started in 2012, under Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s administration, with the primary purpose of bettering the Japanese economy and increasing tourism.
Japan is in the preparation stage of hosting 3 different sporting events, the Rugby World cup in 2019 and the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020.
“Japan is targeting 20 million tourists by 2020 and they only breached the 10 million mark recently and so they will liberalize more and more entry to Japan from other countries” added Mr. Lopez.
These international events will help bring to light Japan’s wealthy culture as well as promote the beauty of Japan to the world and the Japanese government understood they had to use these opportunities to increase the domestic economy, considering the wealth these three countries bear.
