Women from all over the world, all walks of life and of different age groups came together over the span of two days for this year’s World Assembly for Women conference, held at the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa.
This year’s WAW 2016 was nothing short of inspiring, uplifting and yet a huge reminder that much is left to be done in terms of Women Empowerment. Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, who reiterated the importance of this using this year’s theme “WAW! For Action” gave the opening speech.
Also amongst guest speakers were the COO of Instagram, Ms. Marne Levine, Ms. Yuriko Koike, Governor of Tokyo and a video message from State Counselor of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Ms. Aung San Suu Kyi.
It also included panel discussions which covered the topics Building Peace in Society by Women and Sports and Women during which both Olympic and Paralympic medalists were present, as well as High-level round table discussions that had as speakers, dignitaries representing Google, Ajinomoto, Ministry of Foreign Trade Jamaica, UNICEF amongst others.
As rightly put by Ms. Dorji CHODEN, Chairperson of National Commission for Women and Children in Bhutan, “There is no substitute for hard work and we women, still have to work hard. Do not compromise what is expected of you.” who gave the closing speech.
