Mr. Daishiro Yamagiwa
State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry
On May 28 and 29, 2015, METI and the Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) jointly held the Japan-Africa Mining & Resources Business Seminar 2015 (J-SUMIT2) in Tokyo.
Africa is a continent with high-resource potential. However, it also faces many challenges in the investment environment, regional situations, and other business elements. It involves difficulties that the private sector is facing alone in developing business activities on the continent. The government of Japan also organized a business seminar so as to establish an ongoing relationship between Japan and Africa. By doing so, Japan aims to expand opportunities to bring about a mid-to-long term stable supply of mineral resources from Africa.
“There are only a few resource development projects of Japanese enterprises, but no one is questioning the potential of Africa. This conference is an opportunity for new businesses from Africa to spread the virtuous cycle of the Japanese economy into Africa and continue to make the already bright future of Africa an even brighter one!”
